The Mekotek tradition is practiced in Manggu Village in order to celebrate good (dharma) overcoming evil (adharma).

The ritual is also believed to prevent catastrophes and bring prosperity.

How it works: The bamboo sticks are carried to the different temples, everyone then comes together so that all the sticks meet at one point on top. The bravest climb to the top of the sticks, which is rather dangerous.

The next Mekotek tradition will next be performed on April 15, 2016. Make sure you don’t miss it, as it’s an amazing event to see!
