This beach is located in west Bali, just a 1,5 hours drive from the north of Seminyak, half way between Kuta and Medewi.

Balian means ‘sacred’ and that is definitely shown here – the view will leave you speechless. It’s perfect for long walks and the waves are great the entire year through.

Compared to the other beaches in Bali, Balian is pretty underdeveloped tourism wise. This makes it more attractive for those looking for an experience somewhere away from the crowd.

It still has that old-school Bali surfer vibe that a lot of spots on the island seem to have lost. Yet, there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars down the beach. After Ubud, this is one of the most famous spots in Bali to practice yoga. And, of course, Balian is a must for surfers travelling around Bali. It’s easy to rent surfboards and there are options for surfing lessons. The best time for surfing here is during the dry season, when the water is clean and clear. The area is not suitable for swimming due the strong currents. Even better for surfers!

If you’re into white beaches, this might not be the perfect spot for you. But if you like consistently good surf and a beautiful, sparkly, black sand, Balian Beach is the place to visit!
