Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of mountainous landscape and beautiful lake, Ulun Danu Tempe is must ‘go-to’ place while you are in Bali.

The water temple Ulun Danu Beratan might be Bali’s most famous touristic landmark, look up pictures of Bali and you will undoubtedly be overthrown with pictures of this breath-taking temple and the beautiful landscape and the stunning lake of Beratan, which surround this temple. The entire mountainous area of Bedugul will feel like paradise and it is a perfect place to do some sightseeing.

The temple was built in 1556 AD by I Gusti Agung Putu and its purpose is to worship the holy Hindu trinity, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, as well as Dewi danu, the lake goddess. The holy temple stands roughly 1200 meters above sea level.

The ‘floating’ temple is seen as one of the 9 most important temples for the Balinese and during the year countless of ceremonies and festivals will be held here.

You can find a big parking space and several restaurants near to the temple. If you want to fill the entire day, you should try the various water sports, such as parasailing and jet-skis on the other side of lake Beratan. You can also hire fishing gear nearby or hire a boat to enjoy more of the scenery and ride the waters of this beautiful lake.

Visitors of the temple are subjected to an entrance fee of IDR 7,500 for domestic tourists and IDR 10,000 for foreigners. The temple is located at the heart of the island, in the regency of Tabanan. Opening hours are from 08:00 – 18:00.
